With the online exhibition named THE MANY FACES OF NASTY, Nasty presents new pieces at Kolly Gallery from the 17th to the 29th of April 2023.

Nasty is a well-known French graffiti artist who began his career in the 1980s. He was born in 1969 and grew up in the northern suburbs of Paris, He is known for his colorful and highly-detailed graffiti and murals, often featuring intricate lettering.

The artist has become an influential figure in the Parisian street art scene and has inspired many other artists. He continues to create new works of art and has exhibited his work in galleries around the world.

In the current exhibition you can find iconic series that Nasty established throughout his career. The artist began to kidnap outdated or unused subway signs, which he transformed into artful objects using his spray cans and his particular lettering style. In addition, he found his creativity especially in spraying metro plans from Parisian subways. Thus he gave the streets, trains and subways some new calligraphic style and colorful life. From early on Nasty recognized the high potential of the spray can as the ideal object for re- and up-cycling, but at the same time he knew how to turn the presumed leftover of graffiti into a nostalgic cultural asset and piece of history. Who knew that spray cans would develop into iconic symbols and insignia representing the graffiti art movement? Still using the classical materials such as metro maps, signs, tiles and flat pressed spray cans and his notorious calligraphic lettering he keeps the graffiti spirit alive and yet comes up with new as well as unique pieces.

„ I have always used unusual surfaces to express my art, it’s connected to the practice of graffiti that requires you to paint on various and different surfaces. This constraint becomes a creative asset when you work on gallery’s project.“ Nasty, 2023.

Over the years, he has developed a unique style that is instantly recognizable and has become one of the most prominent figures in the Parisian street art scene. Nasty’s work often features bright colors, cartoonish characters, and intricate lettering. He is known for his use of bold lines, patterns, and textures that create a sense of depth and movement in his pieces. In addition to creating street art, Nasty has exhibited his work in galleries around the world, including in France, Japan, and the United States. He has also collaborated with other artists and musicians, creating album covers and designs for clothing brands.
