This year’s hub is Stecchetta on Via De Castilia, next to the Fondazione Catella, but the Isola Design District extends across the whole neighbourhood: from Zona K to Via Spalato, which is holding Lovely Waste by Source, from the craftspeople of Via Pepe to the RivaViva Showroom on Via Porro Lambertenghi with designers from Sarajevo as well as Green Island, on Via Thaon de Revel, with [1+2=8].
The classics includes Dutch Invertuals at the Spazio O’, with the Mutant Matter exhibition (Fleur Hulleman, Fransje Gimbrère, Marlou Rutten, Mirjam de Bruijn, Shahar Livne, Théophile Blandet, Thomas Ballouhey, Xandravander Eijk and Zwart Frame), and the Giovanni Bonelli Gallery, which is hosting Gianni Pettena and Duccio Maria Gambi in collaboration with Nero Design.
The theme is em>Rethinking materials, and it’s been taken very literally: Belgian designers BRUT, exhibiting at the Maraniello space on Via Stelvio, are examining carbon, while Italo-Brazilians Giorgio Bonaguro, Ronald Scliar Sassone and Gustavo Martin tackle marble at the Pero gallery on Via Porro Lambertenghi 3, NO CURVES work with tape, the South-American team at Stecchetta redevelop and blend objects and identities, while Caracol Studio is live-printing beneath the Vertical Forest.
