If there was a course on the classic evolution of an English electronica artist, the parable of Lee Gamble would definitely be on the curriculum. From 90s jungle, he moved into the glitch distortions, ambience and noise of the early 2000s and from there to his current highly personal and experimental techno. DJ, producer and founder of collective CYRK and UIQ – record label established in late 2015 –, Lee Gamble has managed to create a happy mix of dance and abstract, which has led to five albums (one on Kode9’s Hyperdub and another on Bill Kouligas’ PAN) and an endless stream of EPs, mixes and collaborations, as well as a monthly show on NTS. Expect techno with countless contaminations, flashes of bass and the sound of industrial machines, relentless beats and closed eyes on the dancefloor (make sure to only open them after the body suspension performance by Mutant Suspension Squad if you’re on the squeamish side).
