“Fate giardini! Veri giardini, naturalmente, luoghi indomiti, fuorilegge. […] Tracciate il vostro disegno sulla faccia della Terra, che si presta sempre volentieri ai sogni dell’uomo, piantate un giardino e prendetevene cura. E proteggete anche quelli che restano e resistono, i vecchi luoghi abitati dalle piante che arrivano da lontano e continuano a sognare, nonostante l’insensato baccano che li circonda. Lavorate con i poeti, i maghi, i danzatori e tutti gli altri artigiani dell’invisibile per rimettere al suo posto il mistero del mondo. Ciò facendo, affronterete le forze contrarie che oggi sembrano più potenti che mai. Non opporrete al sistema un’ideologia o un progetto politico, ma un semplice luogo con i suoi semplici valori. Non avrete il desiderio assurdo di cambiare il mondo: farete solo un piccolo spazio alla vita. La natura vi offre questa possibilità. Sicuramente non sarete soli in questa battaglia – benché sia improprio definire “battaglia” quest’opera tanto gradevole, dolce, colma di belle sorprese e di ricompense che è il giardinaggio. Gli dèi sono dalla vostra parte. Sì, quegli dèi che si è voluto scacciare, anche loro esuli sulla Terra, ma sempre infinitamente più saggi dei mortali. Stanno aspettando gli uomini, sorridendo dei loro errori e delle loro speranze, dietro il cancello aperto del giardino”. Così Jorn de Précy ci parla dei giardini, e chissà se il programma internazionale GREEN ISLAND che presenta al Fuorisalone “The Secret Garden” ne ha letto le parole. “Make gardens! True gardens, naturally, untamed places, outlaws. […] Sketch your design on the face of the Earth, always eager for man’s dreams, plant a garden and take care of it. And protect those that remain and resist, the old places inhabited by plants that come from afar and continue to dream, despite the senseless clamor that surrounds them. Work with poets, magicians, dancers, and all the other artisans of the invisible to restore the mystery of the world to its place. By doing so, you will face the opposing forces that today seem more powerful than ever. Do not oppose the system with an ideology or a political project, but with a simple place with its simple values. You will not have the absurd desire to change the world: you will only make a small space for life. Nature offers you this possibility. Surely you will not be alone in this battle – although it is improper to define this work, so pleasant, sweet, full of beautiful surprises and rewards that is gardening, as a battle.
