Updated in July 2016: Metropolitan Market moved to London and Turin. Porta Genova’s Market is currently closed.

Until October 31 (but we hope even more than that) there’s a new market where you can buy good and healthy foods, which is the first thing we should care about. This is the Metropolitan Market. Here Ambrogio de Ponti (president of Unaproa, a group gathering 125 organizations of Italian fruit and vegetables products) and Andrea Rasca (food entrepreneur, already manager for Eataly) decided to bring little producers and farmers in the market, who interchange with the open market’s counters (end summer update: unfortunately the open market is not there anymore, while the Metropolitan Market is becoming always more a “location”). Experimenting the market is not only do the shopping: inside Metropolitan Market you can eat, drink in some of the better cafès and restaurants of the city, you can watch films in the open air with Arianteo and you can join DJ sets, workshops for families, cooking classes and so on. The success is resounding: even the trial stage was unnecessary, because people came in crowd in spite of the very hot weather and the mosquitoes. Super positive experience then? Some negative remarks can be made about the inner market, with several products far away from a sustainable practice (for instance the Welsh water Ty Nat). There is also the quality/price report of some inner “restaurants”: no wonder that quality has its cost, but if you don’t pay attention it will become simple to spend about twenty Euros and remain still hungry. Our suggestion is to take a look around the stands and then decide easily: prices stand out clearly everywhere, while concerning servings you’ve just to look! Let’s meet where people drink gin zen drinks with the bag full of fruit and vegetables.
