Working across of range of musics and artistic platforms, it’s fair to say that composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel O’Sullivan has made a strong impact on the international avant community. Whether solo or in his varied collaborative projects, O’Sullivan’s work is remarkable in the way it infuses familiar everyday experience with traces of the uncanny, the secret and the magickal.
Traces of his many projects all meet and mingle in his new solo album “VELD”: from his solo music as Mothlite to the lysergic songcraft and space-time vortices of Grumbling Fur and Laniakea, the reality-distorting zones of Æthenor and Ulver, the electronic pop of Miracle (with Zombi synth maestro Steve Moore), and his recent involvement with another pioneering London group, This Is Not This Heat.

This is where I find connection. In this open hearted polyphony, the language of angels. I’m hoping to hear this and Magnificat and his Funeral Canticle in some county cathedral one day.

So much admiration for this gnostic hero of American baroque. She is one of a kind. Her intention was also to commune. You can hear the muse flowing through every atom of her sound.

This is a traditional Irish sean nos. A very grown up form of melancholy. A detailed request for funeral arrangements in the first person. I’ve always thought of this as a gate.

I’m quite new to Wagner but I find this overture to be as near to perfection as one might find in western chromaticism. Resisting the polarities. Dedicated to the legend of Tannhauser. Another gate, this time towards Venus.

Lawrence is a beautiful eccentric songwriter and this tune benefits from Liz Fraser’s faerie powered column of light.

Heard this on a tape comp that Mississippi Records put out. I think this is from Thailand. Wiggly as the wave and pure as water.
