It was 1956 when Tiberio opened the shutters of this trattoria. Isola was certainly not a fief of avocado toast and cocktails from 12 €. It was a simple place, peripheral, almost unreachable. The menu of the day hangs outside, on the window, with two suction cups. Written strictly in pen. With 9,50 € Tiberio makes you choose between some first courses of the day – orecchiette with broccoli, spaghetti with garlic and oil, pasta with ragu – and the second courses that are a hymn to tradition – Tuscan salami, pork tips, boiled beef, baked chicken. It depends on the day, the mood of the chef, or rather the „cuoco“. It reminds me of Sundays at home, lunches after a school day, when still among the certainties of life there was the sacrosanct division of the meal between first, second and side dish. At Tiberio’s one feels good and eats well, a lunch break (until late) to keep always in mind.
