The ex-Ansaldo space expands with a new “reclaimed” area, the outside courtyard, which has been transformed from an in-between space to a service area that ties in perfectly with the BASE philosophy, thanks to the DONTSTOP Architettura studio. While the building imposes its foundations on any renovation principles, it was equally important to ensure that the areas surrounding the covered space were also subject to a process of “re-humanisation” in the literal sense. In fact, DONTSTOP addresses reappropriation, both in terms of adapting environments to a human scale and natural reappropriation. The project extends horizontally through signs on the floor and vertically thanks to raised floral designs that interact with multifunctional structures used to exploit the space during various cultural events. This is probably the ideal spot for breathing a good sigh of relief during the hectic days of Design Weeks to come.
