Fatboy Slim hung up the big beat some time ago now. Everything he plays nowadays is in 4/4 and borders dangerously on the chavvy, interspersed with his old hits and rounded off with tried and tested finale “Funk Soul Brothers vs Satisfaction”. What we cannot fault, however, is the extra-large smile plastered across his face whenever he’s on the decks and his ability to stir up the crowd by greeting every new track with a frenzy of fist-pumping. That was certainly the case at Sonar a few years ago, where he continued to look like the happiest person in the world even when the sound system went down. He clearly really does live by his philosophy of “Life is a ride, sometimes you go up, sometimes down”.
