The Tunisian band presents the new album “Laylet El Booree” paving the way for a collective trance that recalls the Banga ritual from the salty desert of the Djerid, and connects the Sufi mysticism with nocturnal tarantulae-like gnawa of the sub-Saharan black slaves. But it’s not only about festive desert blues, or bewitching griots: the contribution of the post-punk guitarist François R. Cambuzat combined with the electronics of Gianna Greco, the songs and the polyrhythms of their North African comrades, engaged with castanets, drums and tabla, resolve themselves into a dark, disturbing and unstructured sound complexity. Before the Ifriqiyya Electrique the stage will be totally owned by Rob Mazurek & Gabriele Mitelli: he is the same trumpeter who gave birth to projects such as Chigaco Underground, Isotope 217, Sao Paulo Underground, Exploding Star Orchestra. He will be crossing his mouthpiece with the equally brave Italian colleague G.Mitelli. Unmissable.
