The educational background of Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca ranges from journalism, photography and painting: mediums and tools that the German-Brazilian duo uses to investigate since 2011 the gray area between video art and documentary. In recent years their research has focused on collective ritual practices originating from contemporary Brazil, questioning power dynamics, emphasizing themes such as tradition, identity, race and gender. The work chosen to represent the Brazilian pavilion is the unreleased film Swinguerra: somewhere between musical and abstract documentary, the feature is focused on the swingueira, the dancing technique from Recife born between the intersection of samba and quadrille that has recently become popular on social media.
