Let’s be honest now: we’ve all realised that Nendo is something of a nonconformist. While fashion goes crazy over the minimal, Nendo manages to find the beauty in excess. This is partly thanks – as emphasised with last year’s “Glassworks” – to a certain Japanese essence, which emerges this year in the reinterpretation (in the form of a chair) of manga, a typical Japanese illustrated storytelling style that dates back as far as the seventeenth century. And so it is free rein to cine-comic creations in which even speech bubbles and motion lines – how else would we know that Mickey Mouse is running? – become decorative elements. There’s no shortage of nerds with pedigree (and not only in design). And let’s be honest once more, the Facoltà Teologica alone is a location that surely deserves two or three “Gulps!”
