It is 1965 and within the walls of the Florentine Palazzo Strozzi, 14 designers including Gellner, Sottsass and other highfalutin names have offered up slices of everyday life – the present, for them, yet masterfully visionary and projected towards a future that is still clear and contemporary. Looking back today at that film unwind and twist around the corners of the Palazzo, it is hard not to press pause and linger, with an interrogative air, at the room furnished for lunch by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Removed of all reference to social class, yet by no means void of objects; humble and anonymous, yet complete, absolute. Fragments representative of a design aimed at intensifying the ‘domesticity’ of the place, the positioning of the objects by the Castiglioni brothers seems to reveal new secrets to this day: the freedom of being and living one’s domestic environment. This same freedom is transplanted today with a careful philological reconstruction by the Foundation of the same name at Piazza Castello in Milan. The “Ambiente arredato per il Pranzo” at the “La Casa Abitata” exhibition is curated by Beppe Finessi with graphic design by Italo Lupi and furniture design  by Marco Marzini. Act II: this is part of a three-year project (2016-2018) that will continue to create dialogue about its creators, making them quite free to be immortal.
