Last year, the legendary Sou Fujimoto, one of the best and most astonishing living architects, was involved in the COS “Forest of Light” installation at the ARTI cinema and we predicted great things. How devastatingly wrong we were; it was a dirty black box criss-crossed by extremely banal strips of light, the sort of thing one expects from a provincial theatre. At this point, we are curious to discover whether COS will recover or mess it up again by getting Studio Swine (Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and English artist Alexander Groves) to create something equally embarrassing. For now, the project is shrouded in mystery as usual; there is talk of evanescent sculptures and substances in metamorphosis. We’ll wait and see.
