Edison will once more sponsor The Design Prize, now in its second year. Created by Abitare and Designboom, this international prize recognises design as the virtuous expression of a co-design culture aiming for the efficient use of resources, which is the mission of society at large.

THE DESIGN PRIZE 2018 is organised into 10 different categories: Best Designer, Best Design Newcomer, Communication, Design Curator and Design Critic, Distribution, Exhibition Design, Experimentation, In the Artistic Realm, Lifetime Achievement and Social Impact.
The panel, which votes on the candidates to submit to the Jury, is composed of over 150 important personalities from the worlds of design, research, culture, institutions and business, and from four continents. They include the Campana Brothers, Aric Chen of Hong Kong’s M+ Museum, Formafantasma, Giulio Iacchetti, and Ma Yasong from MAD.

The 30 projects with most votes – 3 for each of the 10 categories – will then be analysed by a Jury made up of Stefano Boeri, Jasper Morrison, Guta Moura Guedes, Libby Sellers, Carlo Ratti, Alex Mustonen of Snarkitecture, Kjetil Thorsen of Snohetta and Ingeborg de Roode, curator at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held in the exclusive setting of the Museo Teatrale alla Scala on the evening of 17 April, the first day of the Milan Design Week. That same evening, Edison will open the new Gioachino Rossini exhibition at the Teatro alla Scala, curated by Pier Luigi Pizzi and Mattia Palma and open from 17 April until late September 2018.

The extremely versatile system will allow the lighting to be modulated according to the different requirements of the museum space: bright lights in the areas used for musical and cultural events, and diffused light, deliberately reminiscent of theatre lighting, during normal opening hours so that visitors can enjoy the exhibitions and multimedia installations.
