Anyone who keeps up with the clubbing world will know what Gabber Eleganza is. It’s the website set up in 2012 by Alberto “Pigro” Guerrini to blog about the 90s post-rave subculture, with a touch of nostalgia and the enthusiasm of somebody who lived through the final phase of that subculture: hardcore and gabber. Then the trend came round again: shaved heads, Dutch stadium chants at 150bpm, Australian tracksuits, Nike Air Maxes, ecstasy and the whole Gabber movement. Pigro (and Gabber Eleganza) found himself being hailed by important music and contemporary culture sites as the creator of this new movement of clubbers fascinated by the gabber image and receiving the respect of the people who were really there, like us. Now the former baker from Bergamo, currently touring between clubs, festivals and museums with DJ sets and the Hakke Show (typical Gabber dance) is moving to Berlin to concentrate on production. It looks like they were right when they said that “Hardcore will never die”.
