What to expect from somebody who invented Tulum’s most unforgettable party in a cenote, or natural amphitheatre, below sea level? Day Zero began in December 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar. It was a date that many feared would bring the end of the world but for our Damian it was only a new beginning. Fascinated by the ancient Mayan culture and the mysticism that unites religion and nature, Damian Lazarus decided to use this enchanted place to celebrate magic and music. So he invented an open-air club that was a natural extension of that cosmos. House, vocals, trance interludes and techno peaks define his Crosstown Rebel label because, as Damian says, that’s “the power of the right music at the right time, there’s an electricity: an invisible force field that envelops people”. Here’s hoping we feel that electricity at Volt.
