This event is curated by DJ Paquita Gordon whose every set is a surprise. She’s likely to play anything from the hottest house to the hardest techno with unlikely classics in-between. A musical pastiche that will always be perfectly suited to the situation and location (whether it’s the Villa Arconati park for Terraforma or London’s sweatiest clubs).

Paquita is part of the new generation of DJs and she’s one of our favourites. That’s why we caught up with her for an interview and we advise you not to miss her set tonight, which will retrace the history of Italian music, from the Middle Ages to the future, in non-chronological order. She will perform for 4 hours, using vinyl only, in the Giardino delle Sculture at the Triennale.

The Milanese artist will take us on a journey through the countless places, moods and eras of Italy: from Gregorian chanting to regional music, from Monteverdi to nineteenth-century opera, from easy-listening to the ambient sounds of Lino Capra Vaccina and Gigi Vivaldi, from the experimental sound of Nono and Berio to contemporary electronica with a bit of Verdi, Vivaldi, Murolo, Modugno, Paoli, Morricone, De Gregori, Pino Daniele and Battiato in-between. Not to mention italo disco, house, techno and back again to Stabat Mater, Palestrina and much more.

This project was created exclusively for the Triennale di Milano to open the Triennale Design Week 2017. The music was researched and assembled with the help of collaborators across the length and breadth of Italy, with material originating from private collections, second-hand markets, record shops, junk dealers, garages and friends.

A whirlwind of music and history performed with an entirely analogue set-up: three decks, a mixer and the Tropic Disco Sound System, a unique sound system handmade in Italy to designs from the Seventies, which blends the classical sound system with top-quality professional components.
