2019 and the Icelandic Pavilion strikes again! Under the curatorship of Birta Gudjónsdóttir, “Chromo Sapiens – Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir / Shoplifter” is hosted in the former Giudecca warehouse of the last edition, the independent studio “Spazio Punch”; this year the space will house a cavern of hair, colors and metal music. The artist therefore seems to reconstruct a cavernous space through factory material coming from her studio. The reproduction of these organic forms wants to evoke the desire of a return to nature in a modern culture that is overwhelmed by artifice. Shoplifter is a refraction of often fantastic imaginary that we are used to associate with Icelandic artists, in this way works exhibited are the result of an interweaving of naturalistic imagery and pop culture. Weavings, fabrics, soft colors, colored lights occupy the space inviting the visitor to then take the way back to nature. It does not come unexpected the collaboration with the Icelandic metal band HAM, that accompanies the work with a commissioned piece that we greatly appreciate, in the sign of the interdisciplinary approach of the Pavilion that has seen in recent years alternating between the other Ragnar Kjartansson and Sigur Rós or Bjork and Gabríela Friðriksdóttir.
