The German pavilion is getting ready to surprise everyone with Natascha Süder Happelmann. Do not worry if you have never heard of her, the artist invited by the curator Franciska Zólyom, director of the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig, is just one of the many “adaptations” of the artist, and the change of identity and biographical information for each exhibition is one of the fundamental traits of her artistic practice. Announced by a personal spokeswoman at a press conference, Natascha has deliberately chosen a declination of her name to refer to the nation she represents: within a tradition that has always faced the controversies and complexities of German history, the name is just a clue to prepare us for a job that will inevitably address issues such as immigration, assimilation and identity in the contemporary world.
