First woman to represent Austria in the history of the Venice Biennale, Renate Bertlmann is an avant-garde artist, who has been investigating the social role of gender, sex and spirituality from a feminist perspective for over half a century. A radical criticality and the willingness to take risks are the basic concepts of her revolutionary and ironic works, which have been regularly banned from museums and institutions since the 1970s. Curated by Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein.
